Robinhood was founded in 2013 as a financial technology company. The founders of the company are Baiju Bhatt, and Vlad Tenev. Robinhood functions as a stock brokerage platform allowing its consumers to trade in stocks, options, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies. The company is also into cash management and offers 0.3% annual percentage yield on uninvested cash.

Robinhood is headquartered in California, United States. Presently, the company is in the series G funding stage. The company has to date raised $2.2 billion in funding from 56 investors.


Robinhood offers trading services in cash management, stock and funds, options, and cryptocurrency

Cash management services include the following advantages.

#1. Robinhood charges no transfer fees and foreign transaction fees on cash management.

#2. No account minimum pre-requisites imposed.

#3. Offers the annual percentage yield of 0.30%.

Stock and funds trading features of Robinhood consist of the following:

#1. Provides options to trade in more than 5,000 stocks.

#2. Stocks offered for trade do not include the following types: foreign-domiciled stocks, preferred stocks, and tracking stocks.

#3. Funds up for trade do not include mutual funds.

In options trading, Robinhood’s services include:

#1. Trading in 250 unlisted global stocks.

#2. Robinhood charges no per-contract fees on options trading.

In its cryptocurrency services, Robinhood offers trading in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and other similar currencies. The trading is commission-free.


The regulatory transaction fee is fixed at a rate of $22.10 per $1,000,000 of principal. The trading activity fee is charged ar $0.000119 per share for equity and $0.002 per share for options. The American depository receipts or ADR fees fall in the range of $0.01 to $0.03 per share.


Robinhood is a brokerage firm that provides trading services in stocks, options, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies. Although it claims to be a zero-commission platform, it charges trading fees in the form of regulatory transaction fee, or trading activity fee.
